About The Position

Tesla’s Cathode Advanced Manufacturing team is developing and scaling LFP cathode material production-scale processes for next generation energy and vehicle products. As a cathode materials chemist/engineer, you will develop/optimize material recipes and synthesis steps at lab scale, assist with technology transfer to pilot scale, and support manufacturing plant basic engineering design. You will work closely with the process development and electrode/cell development team to accelerate technology development from lab to production scale for dry electrode. Success in this role requires strong LFP material synthesis skills and dry electrode development knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop and scale LFP cathode active material synthesis recipe and processes from lab to production scale with improved performance and reduced processing cost
• Develop a technology roadmap on LFP based cathode material to support Tesla’s business strategy with various cell program as material expert
• Design of experiment: Lead DOE design and day-to-day lab/pilot operation
• Material characterization: Lead on material characterization data analysis, including new analytical method development
• Material qualification: Collaborate with electrode/cell development team to facilitate the inhouse cathode material qualification, including data interpretation, troubleshooting, cathode material recipe improvement
• Process scale-up: Support on the scale-up from lab to pilot and production scale by working with process development engineer, including identify, develop and implement manufacturing processes and equipment
• Evaluate disruptive new technology for cost effective process and high-performance product at production scale
