We are seeking an experienced Linux Kernel Development Engineer to join our innovative team, contributing significantly to the Infotainment software at the heart of our electric vehicles. The Infotainment team at Rivian & Volkswagen Group Technologies is dedicated to building an ecosystem that delivers a beautiful, intuitive, and seamless in-vehicle experience to our customers. Your work will directly impact the performance, stability, and security of the in-vehicle experience, enabling advanced features and seamless connectivity for our customers.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in Linux kernel development.
  • Strong expertise in modern C and C++ programming.
  • Profound understanding of fundamental operating system concepts such as scheduling, memory management, and locking mechanisms.
  • Extensive experience with ARM-based embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in ARM architecture, including ARMv8 and ARMv9.
  • Experience with debuggers such as GDB and T32 for complex issue debugging.
  • Solid understanding of Yocto/OpenEmbedded and/or Android for embedded Linux development.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience within the automotive domain.
  • A proven track record of contributing to open-source projects, particularly within the Linux kernel community.

Responsibilities

  • Linux Kernel Development: Design, develop, maintain, test, and debug core Linux kernel code to support our advanced infotainment functionalities.
  • Kernel Patching & Contributions: Submit, review, and apply kernel patches to address bugs, enhance performance, and integrate new features.
  • Advanced Debugging: Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex issues within the Linux kernel and its subsystems.
  • Kernel Security: Proactively address kernel security vulnerabilities and implement robust security enhancements to protect automotive systems.
  • Low-Level System Engineering: Work extensively with device drivers, Board Support Packages (BSPs), and other low-level system components to optimize hardware interaction.
