About The Position

Electric Hydrogen's mission is to make molecules to decarbonize our world! Our outstanding people are our most important asset and will allow us to deliver hydrogen from renewable electrolysis for heavy industry, at prices below fossil fuels. We're looking for a Senior Control System Engineer to join our team. You will develop and maintain control system documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and cause-and-effect matrices for a large-scale electrolyzer system. You will work onsite/ hybrid at our San Jose, CA office, or you will work remotely from Houston, TX. You will report to the Director of Software Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering for industrial applications such as oil & gas, water treatment, or chemical processing
  • Proficient in developing and interpreting instrumentation documentation including P&IDs, loop diagrams, I/O lists, control narratives, and cause-and-effect matrices
  • Experience implementing or supporting Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including SIL calculations, SIF lifecycle documentation, and participation in PHA/LOPA processes
  • Familiarity with PLC and SCADA platforms and industrial control architectures, including I/O and communication protocols
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation technologies, valve and transmitter specifications, and experience interfacing with vendors for design and procurement

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain control system documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and cause-and-effect matrices for large-scale electrolyzer systems
  • Specify and design instrumentation systems, including preparation of datasheets, wiring schematics, and technical documentation to support procurement, installation, and commissioning
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of PLC and SCADA-based control systems, including I/O definition, logic development, and integration with process equipment
  • Support the full safety lifecycle for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including participation in PHA/LOPA reviews, SIL determination, and development of SIF documentation and testing procedures
  • Interface with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure instrumentation and controls meet functional requirements, safety standards, and compliance criteria
  • Provide field and commissioning support for instrumentation and controls, including startup troubleshooting, loop checks, and system validation
