The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is an advisor and performance enabler who partners with business leaders to drive organizational effectiveness through people. As the first point of contact for complex human capital matters, the HRBP delivers high-impact HR solutions aligned with GM’s business purpose, strategy, and culture. This role involves partnering with business leaders to define and execute talent strategies, including workforce planning, job design, and organizational transformation. The HRBP builds credibility and influence across teams, leads organizational design efforts, acts as a talent scout, and shapes the employee experience. They drive leadership development and build people leader effectiveness, serving as a trusted advisor to guide leaders through ambiguity and change. The position requires offering clarity, calm, and actionable solutions for complex HR issues, providing guidance on complex employee relations matters, and using data and insights to drive strategic decisions. The HRBP applies advanced analytical and problem-solving techniques, serves as a catalyst for change during periods of transformation, and influences outcomes without formal authority. They guide leaders in applying Total Rewards practices, ensure sound judgment in complex situations, and collaborate with Centers of Excellence (COEs) to deliver business-aligned HR solutions. The role is recognized as an expert, applying highly specialized knowledge and extensive practical experience, and works independently with broad latitude in decisions and actions in a complex environment. They work on complex issues requiring conceptual thinking, originality, and ingenuity, providing strategic clarity for highly complex HR issues impacting multiple geographies and business units. The HRBP designs and develops impactful and innovative solutions, exercises independent judgment, and operates as a key influencer across global HR functions. They set objectives, take responsibility for achieving metrics, contribute innovative ideas, lead large projects, champion change, co-lead complex change management programs, and serve as a resource and mentor to less experienced HR professionals.
