Requirements

  • 25 years of experience in environmental consulting or geologic fieldwork, preferably involving petroleum-contaminated sites or UST/AST systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field; advanced coursework or certifications (e.g., OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Experience performing Phase I & II ESAs, site investigations, and remediation system support under regulatory oversight.
  • Skilled in soil and groundwater sampling, borehole logging, well installation, and geologic interpretation.
  • Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations including UST rules, RCRA, CERCLA, and state-specific cleanup programs.
  • Proficient in using field instrumentation (PID/FID meters, groundwater gauges, GPS) and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Strong technical writing skills for preparing reports, maps, data tables, and regulatory submittals.
  • Effective communicator with ability to work cross-functionally with project teams, regulators, contractors, and clients.
  • Experience coordinating with laboratories and drillers, and understanding of sampling protocols and QA/QC procedures.
  • Known for being organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to changing field conditions, travel schedules, and client demands.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical with extensive lifting (up to 75 lb), twisting, pulling, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug-screening and background check.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record over the past 5 years required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I & II ESAs) for petroleum-contaminated properties, UST/AST sites, and fuel facilities.
  • Design and implement soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling programs, including installation of monitoring wells and data collection.
  • Analyze and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and environmental data to assess contamination and site conditions.
  • Prepare technical reports, figures, and documentation for submittal to regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, state DEQs).
  • Support remediation activities, including system design, installation oversight, and performance monitoring (e.g., SVE, AS, bioremediation).
  • Collaborate with project managers, environmental technicians, and field staff to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality data collection.
  • Manage field activities including drilling oversight, subcontractor coordination, health and safety monitoring, and sample logistics.
  • Interpret laboratory analytical results and assist in developing conceptual site models (CSMs) and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, logs, chain-of-custody forms, and project documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, including PPE, site-specific health & safety plans (HASPs), and environmental procedures.
