About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to support strategic customers across datacenter, AI, server, and advanced computing markets. This role is based in the Seattle area to provide local customer support and maintain regular access to the Renesas lab facility in Tumwater, WA. This role combines hands-on technical ownership, system-level power expertise, and customer-facing leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in power electronics, and system bring-up, with the ability to guide customers through complex programs from concept to production. Renesas provides comprehensive training on our digital multiphase power solutions, ensuring new hire engineers quickly become experts in our architectures, tools, and validation methodologies.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in power electronics, VR validation, or system-level power architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience with bench-level electrical testing and debug methodologies.
  • Knowledge on how to use oscilloscopes, function generators, e-loads, power supplies, & soldering tools.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting AI/ML accelerators, CPU platforms, server power delivery, or datacenter hardware.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Multiphase buck converters and digital VR controllers.
  • High-current server/AI designs.
  • SIMPLIS simulation environment.
  • Familiarity with automated test scripting and lab instrumentation workflows.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead technical interface for strategic customer accounts, supporting system-level power architecture engagements from design concept to production.
  • Provide expert guidance on digital multiphase power controllers, power modules, and server-class power delivery systems.
  • Support bring-up, debug, schematic reviews, layout reviews, simulations, and full validation cycles.
  • Generate customer-facing documentation such as program updates, validation reports, controller configuration files, waveforms, and issue closure reports.
  • Assist customers during board validation, including VR compliance, SoC/GPU/ASIC domain interaction, and PDN-related performance assessments.
  • Simulate VR solutions with application specific PDNs in SIMPLIS for early design feedback.
  • Execute comprehensive validation of multiphase power solutions for datacenter and AI platforms, including transients, efficiency, telemetry, protection features, and fault response.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, validation matrices, and use automated test flows to ensure full coverage of operating modes and edge cases.
  • Diagnose complex issues using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, current probes, network analyzers, and automated instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with design, systems, & applications teams to identify root cause and propose corrective actions.
  • Work closely with Sales, Product Line, and Marketing teams to provide customer-driven technical insights and influence product roadmaps.
  • Support global engineering teams to ensure smooth program execution across schematic, layout, validation, and reporting phases.
  • Manage multiple customer programs simultaneously, track milestones, and risks.
  • Ensure high-quality execution during all phases of customer engagement and deliver timely updates to internal and external stakeholders.
