We are currently seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist 1 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Independence, OH office. In this position, you will provide field and data analysis support for construction, groundwater monitoring, and field investigation elements associated primarily with Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) projects. Responsibilities include performing routine field investigations, environmental sampling, and site observation, as well as synthesizing, analyzing, and documenting field data. The selected candidate will routinely communicate findings, assist project managers with technical documentation, and gain valuable, hands-on exposure to environmental and construction consulting in the context of CCR compliance. This role is ideal for individuals looking to launch a career in environmental science, with a pathway for professional growth through a mix of field and office responsibilities under the mentorship of experienced staff.

Requirements

  • BS degree in science (e.g., environmental science, geology, chemistry, health science, or related field)
  • Able to perform tasks and assignments including routine data collection, synthesis, analysis, and graphical and written presentation, and apply technical writing, verbal communication, and reasoning skills to project work.
  • Apply academic training toward the ability to perform calculations and evaluation of information and can demonstrate attention to detail on assigned office and field tasks.
  • Able to perform tasks and assignments under the direction of a Project Manager and/or other senior staff.
  • Has basic and developing technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time-management skills needed in the consulting industry.
  • Desire to learn and grow in the profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and assessments related to CCR projects, including soil, groundwater, and site monitoring using approved industry standard procedures.
  • Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field-testing tasks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation.
  • Apply academic training to conduct calculations and evaluate environmental and project data.
  • Assist with the collection, documentation, and organization of field data in accordance with project-specific plans.
  • Draft technical sections of project communications and reports; assist with the summarization and graphical presentation of findings.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours. (Non-standard)
  • Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
