Bring your big ideas knowing you are safe to be who you are and speak up with concerns or questions and put your diverse talents and perspectives to use.  The Opportunity In this role as a Staff Environmental Sciences Specialist, you will have the opportunity to: •    Work with a dynamic team within an established global infrastructure consulting and engineering company. •    Work as part of a team of environmental scientists and consultants to support our clients in achieving compliance with a wide range of state and federal environmental programs and regulations spanning multiple environmental media through every phase of a project; from feasibility, to design, to construction, to operations.  •    Join Black & Veatch's Environmental practice to work with a team of professionals focused on ensuring environmental stewardship for our clients. Job Summary Our Environmental team is a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, engineers, scientists, project managers, and attorneys working together to identify optimum environmental solutions for our clients.  We have provided environmental consulting services in support of projects for over 40 years including a diverse and growing mix of infrastructure projects such as power generation (conventional and renewable) and transmission, oil and gas facilities and pipelines, water and wastewater treatment facilities, data centers, and food and beverage industries. As a full-service environmental consulting practice, services include impact assessment and planning, regulatory compliance and permitting, wetland and floodplain analysis, waterbody and water quality assessment, air quality permitting and management, environmental remediation, site due diligence, environmental noise assessment, pollution prevention planning, and climate action solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or professional degree in Sciences in area of expertise preferred with specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities.
  • A minimum total of 5 year of related work experience. Graduate work may count as related work experience if directly applicable to job function.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, environmental engineering, or sciences strongly preferred. May also consider other degrees, specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities.
  • Proven success providing strategic environmental regulatory and permitting consulting for power generation and/or transmission clients, oil and gas clients, water and wastewater treatment clients, municipalities, data centers, and/or industrial clients.
  • 5+ years of solutions-oriented environmental consulting. Graduate work may count as related work experience if directly applicable to job function.
  • Positive, team-first, get-the-job-done commitment.
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills with proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines.
  • Strong technical writing abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support projects associated with facility development, construction, and operation; providing critical support to our clients in environmental compliance planning, environmental permitting, due diligence, and environmental review services.
  • Domestic and international consulting, permitting, licensing, and environmental quality review for power generation and transmission projects, power storage projects, industrial projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, data centers, and oil and gas projects.
  • Identify and interpret the statutes and regulations affecting the siting, design, construction, and operation of projects, coordinate with regulatory agencies and environmental consultants, and prepare site certification applications, permit applications, and environmental reports. Statutes and regulations may govern use and/or impacts to multiple environmental media including water, air, natural resources, and land use.
  • Determine regulatory applicability, prepare air construction and operating permit applications.
  • Review proposed modifications and air pollution control technologies associated with New Source Review (NSR) including both Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) and Nonattainment NSR Air Construction Permits and prepare air emission estimations.
