About The Position

Environmental Specialist Huntsman is seeking an Environmental Specialist supporting the Performance Products Division located in Conroe, Texas. This position will report to the EHS Manager. Job Scope The Environmental Specialist is responsible for overseeing and assessing environmental compliance at the Conroe, TX manufacturing site. As a key member of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team, this role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, with a primary focus on air quality programs, permitting, reporting, and regulatory engagement in a specialty petrochemical manufacturing environment. In summary, as the Environmental Specialist, you will: Lead and manage air quality compliance programs, including Title V, NSPS, MACT (HON, MON, PPP), Emissions Inventory (EI), and New Source Review (NSR). Interpret environmental regulations and develop compliant, practical solutions to meet site air compliance objectives. Prepare, review, and submit accurate annual and semi-annual environmental reports to regulatory agencies. Monitor site environmental programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, advising management of risks and compliance concerns. Oversee Title V reasonable inquiry data collection, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Prepare permit renewals and Permit by Rule (PBR) applications; review draft permits and coordinate resolutions with regulatory agencies. Manage external consultants and vendors, including scope coordination, scheduling, budget tracking, and invoice review. Lead air-related regulatory inspections and third-party audits, serving as the primary environmental subject matter expert. Support plant operations by evaluating environmental impacts of process changes and securing appropriate authorizations. Participate in Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), and incident investigations as an environmental resource. Conduct emergency environmental reporting and participate in an on-call rotation as required. Support sustainability, corporate metrics, and compliance reporting initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of environmental compliance experience, preferably within a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and Texas environmental regulations, particularly air quality requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical compliance solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and leadership teams.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic operational environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications in environmental, health, and safety disciplines (e.g., CIH, REM, CSP, CHMM).
  • Advanced experience with environmental reporting systems (e.g., TCEQ STEERS, EPA CDX, National Response Center).
  • Experience with corporate EHS management systems and databases (e.g., ENVision, Cority, SAP, RegAction).
  • Familiarity with RCRA, CWA, SPCC, SWPPP, PSM, and RMP requirements.
  • Experience supporting air compliance testing programs and emissions calculations in chemical processing operations.
