About The Position

Let’s make moves! We’re looking for a Staff Engineer who can bring technical leadership, architectural clarity, and a steady, experienced hand to a team that’s growing in both scope and complexity. In this role, you’ll partner closely with our VP of Engineering to shape our engineering practices, guide large-scale technical initiatives, and help us level up as we expand our onshore and offshore teams. You’ll work across the stack — Node.js, React/Next.js, Nest.js, integrations, data, and cloud — while helping move our platform toward more modern, scalable, managed AWS services. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll contribute code, mentor engineers, review architecture, and ensure the systems we build today can support where the business is headed next. We’re an environment where priorities evolve quickly, and new opportunities emerge often. You should be someone who can introduce structure without rigidity, create clarity where needed, and help teams move forward even when every detail isn’t fully defined. Your ability to bring calm leadership, drive solutions, and adapt thoughtfully will make a huge difference. You’ll also play a key role in helping us evaluate and adopt modern AI-assisted engineering practices — bringing in tools and workflows that improve velocity, quality, onboarding, and automation across the team.

Requirements

8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in modern web application stacks.
Strong architectural instincts and the ability to bring clarity to undefined or shifting projects.
Experience supporting or managing offshore engineering teams.
Fluency in Node.js, React, Next.js, Nest.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, AWS, and serverless patterns.
Comfort in DevOps disciplines (Kubernetes, Flux, Terraform) and excitement about enabling a shift toward managed and serverless cloud platforms.
Demonstrated experience integrating AI into engineering workflows.
Excellent communicator, able to work calmly and constructively in a fast-changing environment.
Collaborative, positive, and adaptable — no egos, no drama.

Background in integrations and automations is a bonus.

Responsibilities

Own the architecture for key systems across Node.js services, React/Next.js apps, Nest.js APIs, and our data layer (MongoDB + PostgreSQL).
Guide our transition from Kubernetes/Flux into modern managed AWS cloud services and serverless infrastructure.
Design systems that balance speed, durability, and maintainability — even when business priorities shift on a dime.
Help define and drive AI practices used by high-performing engineering organizations, including:
AI-supported code generation, analysis, refactoring, documentation, and test creation.
Using AI in CI/CD pipelines for code quality enforcement, test creation, and automated reviews.
AI-powered prototyping to reduce iteration cycles.
Converting user stories into structured requirements well-suited for autonomous coding agents.
Evaluating rapidly evolving AI tools, selecting what improves output, and rolling out repeatable best practices to the team.
Work daily with offshore engineers: reviewing PRs, guiding architecture, unblocking issues, and ensuring work fits Revolution Mortgage’s standards and ecosystem.
Build onboarding paths, documentation, processes, and mentorship structures to help offshore teams ship confidently and independently.
Triage, prioritize, and deliver engineering work when requirements are incomplete, ambiguous, or changing.
Break down concepts for juniors and seniors alike, helping teams build with clarity and momentum.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to refine vague requests and craft executable plans.
Work across AWS, Azure, and Microsoft 365 ecosystems — especially where user-facing workflows rely on M365 tools (Planner, SharePoint, Teams, M365 Copilot).
Identify when low-code/no-code tools (Power Automate, Zapier, etc.) make more sense than custom code.
