About The Position

At American Express Global Dining, we are tackling hard problems with elegant solutions and scaling very quickly. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in taking our product and engineering team to the next level. We are seeking ambitious builders who are eager to launch exciting features for our restaurant partners and diners. The ideal candidates elevate the teams around them by providing technical mentorship, setting their team's technical vision, and adapting their role to address gaps and reduce risk. You have the toolkit to work on complex and unknown problems under pressure or at speed. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer, preferably in a fast-paced startup environment
  • 3+ years of experience working as a Software Engineering Staff Engineer / Architect
  • You are a self-starter but very comfortable working closely with a team
  • You are comfortable working with stakeholders outside the Engineering team including our Compliance, Information Security, Product, Design, Sales and Account Management teams
  • Strong experience with a backend programming language, Python & Java Web frameworks preferred
  • SQL / MySQL / Postgres
  • RDBMS and database design
  • Unit / Functional Testing
  • Linux / UNIX
  • Implementing and building APIs
  • Monitoring system performance
  • Leading and growing teams of fellow engineers through complex deliveries
  • A history of taking projects through the entire software development lifecycle from inception to delivery as a technical leader
  • A passion for documenting how systems work
