About The Position

Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs that promote the competency and development of Hazel Hawkins’ staff, including orientation, competency validation, in-service, and continuing education. Duties/Responsibilities: Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs in response to health care demands, trends, identified learning needs, department goals, quality improvement measures, risk management, regulatory changes, and compliance criteria. Designs educational offerings (courses, simulations, programs) using processes and methodologies that incorporate the principles of adult education and learning styles. Directs the delivery of staff education for orientation, conducts competency assessments, facilitates ongoing development, and establishes courses and programs based on annual needs assessments and educational compliance requirements. Delivers education activities that validate, develop, maintain, and enhance the knowledge and skills of staff. Maintains educational and competency records in compliance with hospital Department of Healthcare Services (DHS), Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), The Joint Commission (TJC), and the Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ) standards. Develops and maintains educational policies and procedures to meet standards. Serves as a resource for staff and management. Participates in CQI performance improvement activities. Serves on special committees as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of clinical nursing, including current trends, safety precaution policies, equipment, electronic healthcare records (EHR) management software, accrediting agency standards, and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Working understanding of adult teaching/learning theories and program assessment, program design, promotion and marketing, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • General knowledge of the scope of practice, evidence-based practices, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Patients’ Bill of Rights.
  • Attention to detail with time management and organization skills, with the ability to work with a high degree of initiative and independence.
  • Solid written and public speaking skills, including the ability to clearly and professionally explain medical, technical, or sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, presentation, and email software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook, in addition to a working understanding of HealthStream and Meditech, and an aptitude for learning new programs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate assignments under varied and urgent conditions while working within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems based on the analysis of multiple sources of information, providing new perspectives on existing solutions.
  • Ensures the privacy of each patient’s Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with various groups internally and externally, including clinical and support staff, other departments, management, college staff, regional CPR training program coordinators, and regulatory agencies to coordinate educational needs and ensure compliance.
  • BLS Healthcare Instructor certification within 6-months of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification within 6-months of hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: Must have successfully completed a nursing program from an educational institution accredited by a recognized nursing accrediting body (e.g., ACEN or CCNE).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an educator in an actue care hospital.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
