Our Industrial Group - Data Center Cooling Design Team in Christiansburg, VA is seeking an experienced Staff Design Validation & Verification Engineer to play a critical role on a high‑priority team developing next‑generation cooling pump technologies for data centers—an essential and rapidly growing segment driven by global AI demand. In this role, you will lead comprehensive validation and verification (V&V) activities for advanced pump systems used in mission‑critical data center thermal management. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure robust design performance, regulatory compliance, and exceptional product quality. This is a high‑impact position suited for an individual who thrives in a technically rigorous environment and wants to shape the future of Moog’s expanding presence in the AI infrastructure market. In this on-site role, you will report to the Manager, Design Engineering in Christiansburg, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in product design, testing, validation, or verification engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics, or related field) preferred but will consider experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong background in quality engineering, SPC, and data‑driven decision making
  • Experience with electromechanical or fluid‑handling systems—preferably pumps, valves, or similar hardware
  • Experience working with PLCs, industrial controls, and manufacturing processes
  • Hands‑on hardware engineering experience; comfortable working with water and mild chemicals
  • Familiarity with regulatory certification processes (UL, CSA preferred)
  • Strong analytical, root‑cause investigation, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced development environment
  • Travel: Approximately 10–15% to Murphy, NC

Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end design validation and verification for electromechanical pump systems, including development of test strategies, protocols, and execution plans
  • Plan and perform validation testing for hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical subsystems
  • Conduct statistical process control (SPC) analysis and apply advanced statistical methods to ensure product quality and reliability
  • Support UL, CSA, and other regulatory compliance testing activities (experience preferred, not required)
  • Collaborate with design engineers to evaluate system performance, identify issues, and guide design improvements
  • Perform root cause analyses, develop corrective actions, and support continuous improvement efforts
  • Interface with PLC‑based control systems to validate system operation and reliability
  • Develop technical reports, V&V documentation, and support design and safety reviews
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing test methods and quality engineering processes
  • Perform hands‑on hardware testing, including pumps exposed to water and light chemicals
  • Support process development and production readiness in collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams
  • Occasional travel to Moog’s Murphy, NC facility (10–15%) to support testing, integration, and cross‑site collaboration
