Keeping healthcare healthy can be as fun as it is rewarding Engineering is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. The Data Platform team gathers and enables data throughout the organization in order to provide insights into all aspects of CHG's business. This allows our Sales and other business partners to make better informed decisions. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader, driving architectural decisions, establishing best practices, and mentoring team members while delivering complex, high-impact data solutions. This role will report to the Data Platform Manager.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence without direct authority across teams and departments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers and elevating team capabilities
  • Expert-level understanding of logical and physical data models, including deep expertise in Kimball methodology and dimensional modeling
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with strategic planning and leadership responsibilities
  • Experience driving operational excellence, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response for data pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions
  • 8+ years of experience with data analysis and building ELT/ETL solutions
  • 6+ years of experience with ELT/ETL and cloud data warehousing methodologies and tools (Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran preferred)
  • 6+ years of SQL experience writing complex queries and optimizing performance
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or senior individual contributor role
  • Extensive experience with reporting-database integration, API-based data extraction, and processing data across diverse database platforms
  • Demonstrated experience leading software design practices, establishing data architecture patterns, and building enterprise-scale data solutions
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a technical field; advanced degree a plus

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience building and optimizing data pipelines using Python
  • 3+ years of experience developing Tableau extracts, dashboards, and enabling self-service analytics
  • Experience with DataOps practices, CI/CD for data pipelines, and infrastructure as code
  • Prior experience defining data governance frameworks and data quality standards
  • Experience with real-time/streaming data architectures
  • Track record of contributing to or leading data platform transformations

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction and evolution of the Enterprise Data Strategy in partnership with leadership and the Data Platform Architect
  • Design, architect, and implement complex ETL/ELT solutions using Fivetran, dbt, and Snowflake, setting technical standards for the team
  • Drive the cloud migration strategy, ensuring scalability, reliability, and data quality across the Data Lake ecosystem
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, providing guidance on data architecture, pipeline design, and performance optimization
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and tools to continuously improve data platform capabilities
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders across Engineering, Sales, and Business Intelligence to align data solutions with organizational objectives
  • Mentor and coach Senior and mid-level Data Engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, testing methodologies, and documentation practices for data development
  • Lead technical design reviews and provide architectural oversight for team deliverables
  • Partner with Product and Project Management to shape roadmaps, estimate complex initiatives, and drive delivery in an agile environment
