About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of more Senior Attorneys, the individual in this position gathers information, identifies and analyzes legal issues of moderate complexity; provides advice and counsel to business unit personnel; reviews various contracts including software licenses performs legal research and handles litigation matters This position will support and advise various business units across the organization on legal, compliance and regulatory matters impacting the company. This position is ideal for someone who brings strong business acumen, work ethic, embraces complexity, and enjoys partnering with cross functional teams to navigate legal and regulatory challenges in innovation and evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice law in a particular state
  • Four (4) years of related experience (e.g., law firm, corporate legal department). Substantive experience in corporate, compliance, technology and/or insurance law. Substantive experience in litigation management, drafting commercial contracts, and/or performing complex legal research.
  • Legal knowledge and the ability to perform legal research analysis and provide recommendations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present to various groups.
  • Knowledge of computer-related software and research databases (Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis)
  • Ability to multitask and meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of insurance regulation and compliance
  • Insurance related designations or certification are a consideration

Responsibilities

  • Meets with business unit personnel to gather facts in connection with analysis of legal issues; provides recommendations to business unit personnel under the direction of senior attorneys.
  • Reviews, drafts and negotiates contracts of moderate complexity including software licenses, and technology agreements.
  • Conducts legal research of federal, state, and local laws and prepares legal memoranda containing analysis of legal issues and recommendations for multiple states research projects.
  • Works with outside counsel and/or carriers in connection with the management of various corporate litigation matters. Coordinates responses to subpoenas; may attend depositions and mediations.
  • Monitors and conducts research on federal, state and local compliance, regulatory and legal issues impacting NCCI as a licensed workers compensation insurance rating/advisory and statistical organization.
  • Research, draft and prepare articles and white papers for publication on the intranet and/or internet.
  • Coordinate Legal Department projects (e.g., research and pleadings database, premium recovery/legal expenses benchmarking, etc.)
