About The Position

As the Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator at Tanglewood, April 13 to October 20, 2026, your role is pivotal in ensuring the success of diverse programs through mentoring and modeling of best practices and ways of being. Collaborating closely with the Director and program leadership team, you'll assist in planning, executing, and evaluating programs. You will serve as a mentor for staff, providing supervision, support, and feedback. The Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator supports the intangible magic of Tanglewood, blending education, engagement, and fun creatively. You have a deep appreciation for immersive educational experiences and are committed to creating positive, life-changing experiences for participants and staff. You will reside on-site throughout the seasons, with structured time off each week. You will serve as the Director on Duty during times when the Director is off grounds, sharing overnight responsibilities with the leadership team.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Must be at least 25 years of age
  • Documentation of 16 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp
  • Must be able to serve as Director on Duty on a rotating basis or as needed
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience working with youth and teaching in the outdoors, or equivalent
  • Ability to serve as a University of Maine driver and drive 12-passenger vans
  • Lifeguard certification or Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid US driver’s license and are eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy
  • Must meet the State of Maine requirement for driving vehicles, "Drivers of vehicles carrying campers must be at least 21 years of age and be approved by the camp’s auto liability insurer’s agent."

  • Lead groups in various outdoor environments, comfortably carrying a small backpack filled with teaching supplies and a first aid kit to support your activities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, live in camp during the summer season, and work some additional evenings and weekends
  • Experience leading staff training or in-services
  • Experience supervising staff and providing positive mentorship
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to drive camp vehicles
