About The Position

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a leading US based provider of construction assurance, testing and inspection in civil and commercial construction. Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. What are we looking for? The Staff Civil Engineer - Construction is responsible for performing a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures. This position outline is a general guideline and does not represent all encompassing details. The position assumes that the incumbent has both the mental and physical requirements to carry out the above defined duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited engineering / ABET School required
  • Knowledge in civil engineering fundamentals and soil mechanics
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  • Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb and work at heights occasionally
  • May travel overnight occasionally

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate is highly preferred
  • Ability to obtain a PE within 6 months preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of construction materials testing, or geotechnical engineering experience is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in geotechnical field investigations, including logging of soils borings, performing percolation testing, and conducting soils strength testing
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and proposals
  • Perform engineering analysis under the guidance of a professional engineer
  • Review project plans and specifications prepared by others
  • Attend client site meetings and communicate effectively with client and project teams
  • Perform testing and inspection tasks in the field and laboratory regularly
  • Operate testing equipment, conduct testing, and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • May manage projects, train and oversee technicians, and review field and lab data
