Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an experienced attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service! We are looking for a colleague with a strong, introductory background in civil insurance defense litigation. This position will handle all personal lines auto, subrogation, and small claims cases for Texas Staff Legal. The Staff Attorney will work remotely anywhere within central to east Texas and make appearances as necessary throughout the covered portions of Texas (jurisdictions we handle include the central to eastern half of Texas, excluding south of Corpus Christi).

Requirements

  • 2 plus years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases.
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Texas.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.

Nice To Haves

  • First-chair small claims trial experience is preferred; second-chair jury trial experience is a plus.
  • Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Independent handling of insurance defense docket of small claims, subro, and personal-lines auto cases throughout Texas from inception through and including trial.
  • Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research.
  • Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
  • Attend hearings and other court appearances, depositions, and trial with autonomy.
  • Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured.
  • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
  • Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
  • Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions.
  • Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
