About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. We are a fast moving team with an ambitious goal. The team specializes in building novel audio-first experiences specific to our products. The technical nature of this work will center around applied AI. Our team also develops across the stack to rapidly prototype and vet new ideas and experiences. In this role, you will join our multidisciplinary team of product managers, program managers, UX, research scientists and engineers and work on research, building from zero to one. You will acquire practical skills in building, developing, and working first-hand with advanced AI technologies and turning new ideas into finished products, fundamentally impacting people’s lives. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience with Rapid Prototyping.
• Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
• Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP).
• Experience with speech recognition.

Responsibilities

• Build fast prototypes and collect feedback to vet product hypotheses.
• Partner closely with researchers to build edge focused emerging AI capabilities and technologies.
• Partner closely with product teams across product and devices (e.g., android, pixel, wearables, home, extended reality) to develop novel user experiences.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, UX, and other partners to plan and prioritize projects.
• Design, develop and launch new product features.
