Staff Accountant - Short Hills, NJ (Hybrid)
About The Position
Position is engaged in finance-related projects and coordinates with other departments to ensure proper financial reporting, including ensuring the control environment is maintained. Position is responsible for maintaining general ledger account balances, in conformity with Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Prepares accurate monthly financial reports and accounting summaries. Examines accounting documents for accuracy and ensures compliance with policies and procedures and accounting standards. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Familiarity with laws and regulations that apply to accounting and compliance.
- Experience with spreadsheet software packages.
- Familiarity with automated or manual accounting systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to organize and manage projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 1-3 years of financial accounting experience
Responsibilities
- Participates in accounting projects.
- Keeps current on available technology, and how technology can enhance our environment.
- Documents impact of projects on the company’s control environment.
- With the implementation of projects, will assist in updating and deploying of accounting reports and reconciliations.
- Suggests new accounting procedures and recommends improvements.
- Applies applicable accounting and reporting rules, and statutory regulations
- Contemplates and recommends financial transactions in accordance with SSAP and GAAP as they relate to projects being worked on.
