About The Position

CAF is headquartered in San Diego with regional presence in New York City, San Francisco and Boise, Idaho. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and plays a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate, timely financial data. This role partners closely with the accounting and development teams to maintain strong financial controls and system integrity. The current schedule is hybrid, and must be based in San Diego.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business preferred, or equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounts and coding, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Hands-on, self-motivated professional willing to roll up their sleeves and get the work done.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards, with the ability to represent the organization’s values with discretion and trust.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, OneDrive, QuickBooks Enterprise, Salesforce NPSP, and Wrike; intermediate or higher Excel skills required.
  • Work requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Nice To Haves

  • Nonprofit and accounts payable experience a plus.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise preferred.
  • Understanding of donor and donation tracking; Salesforce experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately enter vendor invoices with appropriate account coding by class and purpose.
  • Own the annual 1099 reporting process, ensuring complete and up-to-date vendor W-9 documentation.
  • Support core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, in-kind donations, purchasing, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with entering donations into the donor database and ensure consistency and reconciliation between financial and donor systems.
