About The Position

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health, accuracy, and integrity of the organization. This position requires a candidate with demonstrated bookkeeping expertise, advanced experience in QuickBooks, and a proven track record of performing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. The ideal candidate brings nonprofit accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage financial processes independently and accurately. This role supports the organization’s mission by maintaining transparent financial records, supporting grant compliance, and providing timely, reliable financial information to leadership—helping ensure responsible stewardship of resources that serve child abuse victims and their families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization required.
  • Demonstrated bookkeeping experience including full-cycle accounting responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks required.
  • Hands-on experience performing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fund accounting, grant management preferred.
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser Edge NXT or similar accounting software
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards

Responsibilities

  • Record and reconcile daily transactions, including accounts payable, grant & pledge receivable, and payroll.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and credit card expense reconciliations to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure all entries are properly classified by fund, program, and grant.
  • Assist with the budgeting processes.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds in compliance with donor and grant requirements.
  • Prepare financial reports for grantors and funding agencies.
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure adherence to budgets and allowable cost principles.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all financial transactions and ensure proper audit trails.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and work closely with external auditors.
  • Ensure timely completion of tax filings (Form 990 and related schedules).
  • Maintain documentation and internal controls that meet audit and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with program managers and leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in improving financial systems and processes for greater efficiency and transparency.
  • Support special projects and other administrative duties as assigned
