True North Goodwill is a nonprofit organization regionally headquartered in Duluth, MN whose mission is transforming lives for generations through learning and the power of work. We provide training, jobs, and support services for people with barriers to employment who seek greater independence. Our mission is funded through the sale of donated clothing and household items in Goodwill stores and online. We are a group of nearly 300 mission minded employees in Northern MN & WI working as one. By working at Goodwill, you can make an impact in your community. And we can show you how. The Staff Accountant is an essential member of the organization’s financial management team. This individual should possess excellent organizational skills, motivation, and a strong work ethic to fulfill the role's crucial responsibilities. The ideal candidate must be willing to tackle clerical and professional duties while contributing to significant improvements and updates to the department's processes. The Staff Accountant will have the opportunity to work closely with Finance leadership, as well as support a variety of other accounting responsibilities as needed. This position is responsible for all areas of financial management including but not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of GAAP theories, principles, and practices of not-for-profit accounting and fiscal management.
  • Ability to self-manage and work independently.
  • Ability to analyze data accurately and efficiently with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure.
  • Effective communication both orally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and very detail-oriented.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, OR associate degree in accounting or related field with two years of accounting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with Sage accounting software and/or ADP software is a plus.
  • Previous experience with accounts payable/receivable and/or payroll preferred.
