The Staff Accountant supports our construction accounting operations by ensuring accurate payroll processing, cost allocation, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role works closely with the Accounting Manager and Project Accountants and is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • One to three years of accounting experience, preferably in construction.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Vista, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of accounting software.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • A collaborative, accountable mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process weekly payroll and related journal entries, including labor burden and fringe allocations
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, union, and certified payroll requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll liability accounts.
  • Allocate direct and indirect job costs across multiple construction projects and entities.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Review and post cash receipts, deposits, and credit card transactions.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger entries.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare schedules and reports for management and audits.
  • Assist with internal controls, accounting policies, and annual audits.
  • Track and recover eligible sales tax on qualifying purchases.
