The Staff Accountant role at Butterfly Effects is a highly visible position in the fast-growing, dynamic autism services industry. Butterfly Effects is a private equity backed company, and this role will directly support the Director of FP&A across both accounting and finance functions. The Staff Accountant will primarily support the monthly close process and core accounting month end close activities, while assisting with financial analysis, reporting and supporting the company's data and business intelligence (BI) environment, including analytics and reporting initiatives. Over time, the role offers meaningful exposure to FP&A, operational analytics, and our BI platform (DOMO). This role requires working onsite in our Deerfield Beach location This role requires flexibility during month-end close, including working later hours a few days per month to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required (pivot tables, V lookups; advanced skills a plus)
  • Detail-oriented with sound judgment and a hands-on approach to assigned tasks
  • Ability to support analysis, develop insights, and prepare management-level reporting with guidance
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Results-oriented with a desire to learn and be challenged

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in public accounting or a close-focused accounting role is a plus
  • Exposure to SQL, BI tools, or data analytics platforms (e.g., DOMO) a plus
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a flat organizational structure

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month-end close process, including schedules, reconciliations, and supporting analysis
  • Identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies on a weekly and monthly basis through reconciliation reports
  • Assist with preparation of annual business plan, budget, audit, and tax
  • Design and develop analyses across the company's systems including, but not limited to, accounting, practice management, business intelligence, human resources, and applicant tracking systems
  • Review, analyze, prepare, and report recommendations regarding the financial impact of rate changes, business/expansion opportunities, compensation plans, capital expenditures, and other identified areas
  • Support organizational reporting KPIs through development of new content and maintenance of the quality of data within the business intelligence system
  • Prepare, consolidate, and/or analyze financial management reports
  • Investigate and explain unusual variances
  • Assist in special projects such as software implementations
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of appropriate tools to convert the business plan into a profit plan
