About The Position

O’Hagan Meyer, a law firm headquartered in Chicago with offices nationwide, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the Firm’s accounting operations. This role is ideal for a self-starter who is highly organized and committed to accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to best practices and firm procedures. The Staff Accountant will work closely with members of the Accounting Department, attorneys, staff, and firm management across all offices. Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize competing deadlines
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting required; education in or working knowledge of general accounting principles and best practices preferred
  • Experience in an accounting operations function such as Cash Applications, Trust Accounting, Accounts Payable, Billing, or Collections strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile all deposits into firm bank accounts
  • Perform all duties with appropriate professional skepticism and in accordance with internal control procedures
  • Identify and escalate unusual or non-routine transactions to ensure compliance with firm policies and best practices
  • Research and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding account transactions and balances
  • Prepare monthly account balance, status reports, and reconciliations
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Perform quantitative analysis and research to support informed financial decision-making
  • Prepare, consolidate, and analyze monthly and ad hoc financial reports
  • Support budgeting and forecasting initiatives
  • Collect, validate, and analyze financial data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Monitor key financial performance indicators and assess variances and trends
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of all financial analyses and reports
