About The Position

Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ’s relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client’s needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential. Position Summary The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization and plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and strong internal controls. This position works closely with the Finance team and program leaders and is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for nonprofit work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with fund accounting a plus
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • nonprofit experience preferred
  • familiarity with fund accounting a plus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Prepare and review monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Track and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with donor and grant requirements
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Assist with grant reporting and compliance documentation
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for annual audit and Form 990
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls
