STAFF ACCOUNTANT JOB DESCRIPTION REPORTS TO: Controller SUMMARY: Maintains utmost confidentiality of all finance information. Responsible for monthly accurate and timely general ledger (G/L) accounting maintenance including agency, departmental, accounts payable; fixed assets; payroll; analyzing and reconciling G/L accounts; bank statements, and audit and budget support.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in finance or accounting with 3 or more years of experience or Bachelors of Science or Arts degree in Accounting or Finance and 2 or more years of experience.
  • Strong technology skills and strong expertise with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter possessing an attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, reprioritizing work as necessary; is tolerant of people and processes and can deal well with change and new information.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and disseminate appropriate information to coworkers and other departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Sage accounting software experience is a plus.
  • Professional experience in a nonprofit Finance Department is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in month end closing by reconciling, analyzing, and balancing G/L accounts including preparation of journal entries, researching and correcting account discrepancies.
  • Assists in preparing financial statements for respective companies as required and performs variance analysis related to financial statements.
  • Prepares schedules and documentation annually for independent CPA firm in connection with annual audit, tax reporting and 403b reporting.
  • Performs Balance Sheet Accounts reconciliations each month including Banking, Receivables, Prepaids, Accruals, Payroll, Intercompany and Suspense accounts. Prepares and manages yearly expense budgets for CHHS, CHIMI and CHHSF by assisting the department managers with projecting next year’s sales and expenses.
  • Updates and maintains daily incoming CHHSI, CHIMI and CHHSF cash flow including insurance payments, private pay payments and additional miscellaneous expenses.
  • Provides coverage for accounts payable staff, prepares account receivable payments for assigned companies and posts payments when needed.
  • Performs monthly and annual reconciliation of Foundation grants and investments accounts
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, infection control, privacy and confidentiality, and HIPAA.
  • Assists Controller with special projects and analyses as needed.
  • Participates in other duties assigned.
