About The Position

Mercer Zimmerman, a top Midwest lighting manufacturer representative, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its corporate Accounting/HR team. This full-time, hourly, in-person position, based in the Overland Park, KS corporate office, will support the financial operations of multiple entities. The role involves addressing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial records, and assisting with monthly and year-end close processes. The Staff Accountant will work closely with sales, operations, and leadership to support accounts payable/receivable and financial reporting across multiple profit centers. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 2–5 years of accounting experience
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Professional judgment and discretion with confidential information
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Nice To Haves

• Experience with manufacturer rep agencies
• Familiarity with job costing or project-based accounting
• Construction, lighting, or electrical industry experience

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate general ledger records and journal entries
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank and credit card accounts
• Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for financial statements
• Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and payables
• Manage customer invoicing and receipts
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collections as needed
• Assist with tracking and reconciliation of sales commissions
• Maintain job/project-level financial records and reporting
• Ensure adherence to internal accounting policies and controls
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting
• Provide accounting support for special projects as assigned
