About The Position

The Staff Accountant—Treasury is a key member of the finance team supporting the organization’s cash management functions, including executing banking transfers, maintaining authorization and support for cash activity, monitoring cash position to meet operational needs, and maintenance of internal controls to safeguard agency assets. Provides support on treasury matters in accordance with Volunteers of America – Greater New York, Inc. policy and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with one year of relevant experience. Knowledge of cash management is required.
  • This employee must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy is required.
  • S/he will also have a collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with strong Excel skills is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Electronic Funds Transfer requests and initiates transfers in the banks’ online systems.
  • Retrieve daily bank activity reports and validate transfers. Prepare daily cash reports summarizing activity and supporting with authorizations.
  • Handle requests for cleared check images and proof of wire/ACH transfers.
  • Assist with preparation and reconciliation of agency and related entity debt schedules and maintain documentation to support each loan. Validate the calculation of interest charged on agency credit lines.
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Treasury with treasury related tasks, including analyzing and monitoring cash position and liquidity needs, reviewing positive pay exceptions, and liaising with banks to obtain statements and details of transactions.
  • Provide support to the Senior Manager, Payroll, including completion of wage verification forms, update and maintenance of employees’ electronic files, timecard review, and retrieval of payroll reports for billing and audit requests.
  • Provide support for internal and external audit engagements.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Volunteers of America–Greater New York policies and procedures to comply with regulations and safeguard agency assets.
  • Provide support on financial initiatives and projects, and perform other related duties as required.
