About The Position

More than one million people in the United States today are fighting blood cancer. While a traditional allogeneic stem cell transplant has been the best hope for many, the transplant itself can prove fatal or lead to serious conditions, such as graft vs. host disease. Orca Bio is a late-stage biotechnology company redefining the transplant process by developing next-generation cell therapies with the goal of providing significantly better survival rates with dramatically fewer risks. With our purified, high-precision investigational cell therapies we hope to not only replace patients' blood and immune systems with healthy ones, but also restore their lives. As a Staff Accountant (Temp) at Orca Bio, you will be responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger and comply with accounting principles, company policies and regulations. You will contribute and execute key accounting processes related to the general ledger to ensure accurate recording of journal entries, reconciliations, support month-end and quarter-end close activities. You will help with special projects assigned to, including but not limited to, clean-up with inactivating vendors and purchase orders. The duration of the this assignment is approximately 3 months.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of general accounting experience, ideally in a public company or biotech setting
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and SOX compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with NetSuite
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
  • Ability to analyze data, solve problems independently, and propose process improvements
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries for reclassifications, and other adjustments
  • Prepare clean up on purchase orders and accounts payable vendors
  • Preform balance sheet account reconciliation and resolve any discrepancies monthly
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and SOX policies
  • Audit vendor W9 forms for accuracy for tax filing purposes
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Assist internal and external audit by providing supporting document as requested
  • Review expense reports with expensify and Navan, and upcoming new T&E system, Concur
