About The Position

This position is a one year preliminary or five year categorical training experience leading to board certification in General Surgery. Patient care, both ambulatory and inpatient, are the means through which the residents acquires clinical skills. Licensed physicians who have ultimate responsibility supervise all services. QUALIFICATIONS The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities needed to perform this job successfully. Education: Graduation from a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical school, American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited osteopathic school, or completion of a Fifth Pathway program sponsored by an LCME accredited medical school. Graduates of medical schools outside of the United States and Canada must have received a current valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and be eligible for unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Washington.

Requirements

  • Resident must be eligible for a training license to practice medicine by the State of Washington Department of Health.
  • Learning capacity to assimilate new information and procedural skills and apply them to appropriate clinical situations.
  • Progressive proficiency in diagnosis and surgical management of a broad array of pre- and post-operative medical problems from pediatrics to the care of the elderly is expected.
  • Residents must possess the intellectual, communication, social, sensory and motor skills to perform the professional role of general surgeon.
  • Residents must meet the requirements to register with the National Residency Matching Program for Graduate Medical Education (GME) training programs.
