Our Management Liability team is seeking a Sr. Underwriting Associate to join their growing team in New York. This is a full time, non-exempt role. This is a remote opportunity. POSTION OVERVIEW: This position serves as an experienced essential member of the Management Liability UA team by supporting various underwriting functions in partnership with assigned underwriters and/or territories including an expanded level of UW authority. Sr. Underwriting Associates are responsible for all supporting functions of an Underwriting Associate and also demonstrated a level of expertise and knowledge to consistently support teammates with training & quality, act as mentor for team members, participate in cross-functional business initiatives and the capability of backing up some leadership functions. Lead UA partner with other support areas like Billing, Premium Audit, Claims, Agency Licensing. Additionally, individuals in this role are responsible for following and supporting team members with operational workflows and best practices while ensuring service levels are met and a positive customer experience is provided to internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of Specialty/Professional Executive lines of business insurance experience
  • Direct experience as an Underwriting Associate
  • Experienced understanding of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures, workflows, systems & tools in an operations setting
  • Robust functional knowledge of product offerings and solid business acumen
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail - comprehensive understanding of systems and workflows
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally
  • Understand key business contacts/escalation paths

Responsibilities

  • Support the underwriter in new business and renewal activities
  • Account preparation: collection/analysis of data, ensuring complete file documentation, instruction, solicitation, etc.
  • Help to support the quoting and issuance cycle
  • Update work management system statuses throughout the cycle of the policy and monitors work in queue
  • Document all new and renewal accounts including the completion of underwriting tools and information from outside resources in accordance to Best Practice guidelines
  • Complete loss control ordering form at issuance and monitors Task Assistant and monthly report to advise underwriter of report availability
  • Handles legal notice requests that must be sent at the direction of the Underwriter
  • Consistently execute to all UA steps during new business and renewal issuance and subsequent transaction to achieve quality and service standards
  • Facilitate transfer of accounts to Process Support for issuance, provides detailed processing instructions and updates appropriate statuses
  • Use appropriate communication channels to refer or follow-up with the underwriter to ensure outstanding items are handled timely
  • Serve as primary service contact to ensure superior customer experience; presents solutions for rush new business, renewal and endorsement requests.
  • Respond to account inquiries such as accounting status and billing issues
  • Manage account information ensures accuracy of input into all appropriate systems
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of underwriting systems, workflows, procedures and compliance rules
  • Can assist with cross-training support of UA teammates
  • Understand strategy, territory appetite and key agent partners in order to achieve growth and profitability goals
  • Cultivate strong business relationships (internal and external) by proactively communicating and conveying ownership and commitment
  • May provide technical coaching, training and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • May also assist in development of training plan and materials
  • May work with department leadership to facilitate continued operational improvements and efficiencies
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and expertise of underwriting systems, workflows, procedures and compliance rules
  • Consistently engaged in team meetings/email/virtual discussion, work sessions, training opportunities
  • Independently problem solves, proactively manages service & individual work volumes
  • Ability to independently prioritize assignments based on understanding of business goals and flexibility to shift priorities when needed
