As a Tooling Engineer at Tesla, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing equipment for our Can Stamping battery cell manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Tool and Die, Quality, and Engineering teams, to scale up battery can-forming processes to high demand production. Experience in the beverage can and bottle industry, with expertise in high-precision metal forming, is highly desirable to innovate and optimize these critical processes. Your work will involve optimizing equipment and processes, ensuring safety, and driving continuous improvements. Drive ramp of production lines by characterizing baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availability Analyze production with statistical software to understand manufacturing uptime, availability, and yield, OEE, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput Optimize specialized equipment such as progression die presses and coil feed presses for high-volume can forming, drawing on best practices from related industries like beverage manufacturing Collaborate with Controls Engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and optimize processes using PLC, HMI, or tool management software Generate and maintain documentation including machine and process specifications, drawings, BOM, and spare parts
