About The Position

As Sr. Staff Tooling Engineer, Manages and controls the development and execution of assigned tooling programs and projects. Supports in mold builder selection and mold design. Builds, releases and validates phases on new tool projects. Assists in mold repairs as an advisor to tool room personnel (in house and outside sources) and is responsible for mold’s preventive maintenance and repair programs and systems, as well as for mold’s spare programs. What you will do Performs components, finish goods, tooling, etc. design reviews to evaluate metrics, technical challenges, design evolution, potential problems, execute plastic flow simulation for plastic components, steel cavities and full tools. Perform analysis of scanning (3D & CT) data for plastic components and tooling. Design tooling components and develop manufacturing procedures. Support & lead of assigned programs/projects as directed by the department manager. Contact outside contractors and vendors for quotation requests. Will take technical leadership role on multiple projects for improvements on technical areas and bringing new technologies & capabilities. Builds knowledge of cross business unit products/processes within business unit and Division. Keep in house a Mold History File for each assigned mold, as well as a Mold Drawings History Record. Establish machining procedures to produce replacement parts. Implement safety guidance for all machining equipment. Monitor tooling lifecycle and establish PM program based in BMS data. Prepare Repair/Replacement Budget based on BMS Data. Audits on a periodic basis the supplier’s and in-house mold records and the available spare part inventories by mold. Reports deficiencies and takes corrective action as required. Perform Incoming and Outgoing Mold Inspection reports as applicable. Publishes corresponding reports on findings as required Analyze plastic part quality problems as required and determine root cause traceable to mold conditions. Determine action plan and execute or support accordingly. Collaborate with peer groups within the operation in the resolution of quality or production throughput related issues with traceable elements to mold performance. Review and evaluate the in-house existing Preventive Maintenance Program procedures performed by the tool room resources. Performs changes to the procedures as required. May design and/or specify inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment (e.g. fixtures, etc.)

Requirements

  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline or a minimum of 8 years of experience in mold making and/or Injection Molding management or processing.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • 10+ years of Injection Molding process, tooling and plastic technologies
  • Blueprint/engineering schematic reading and interpretation.
  • Thorough Tool & Die making knowledge
  • General knowledge of metallurgy and heat transfer concepts, polymer and thermoplastic resin properties, Injection Molding Machine configuration and operation.
  • Demonstrated excellent technical competencies and evidence of mastery in current or previous area of assignment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degrees or certifications in master molding &/or tooling design are a plus.
