About The Position

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be the technical lead responsible for the cybersecurity and operational health of a critical Department of Defense communications program. Reporting to the program’s technical manager, while developing, implementing, and continuously improving security controls across the organization’s information systems, networks, and supporting infrastructure Working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and contractors, assessing system vulnerabilities, devising risk‑mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with DoD cyber‑policy frameworks (RMF, NIST 800‑53, CNSSI 1253, etc.), and providing rapid response to security incidents and malware events Serving as the primary technical liaison with government program officials and vendors, delivering clear status reports and safeguarding mission‑critical data and platforms FILLING THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING #LI-TF1

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical, business, or computer‑science/IT from an ABET‑accredited or CAE‑designated institution or an A ssociate degree with four years of relevant experience or six years of relevant experience
  • Active DoD Top Secret (or higher) clearance at the time of hire
  • At least one DoD‑approved baseline certification, such as CISM , ISSO, FITSP‑M, GCIA, GCSA, GCIH, GSLC, GICSP, CISSP‑ISSMP, CISSP, CISA, CCSP, or any equivalent credential recognized by the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework
  • Minimum of three  productive years of full‑time experience performing senior‑level systems‑engineering and cybersecurity duties (or equivalent on‑the‑job training that meets the DoD CSWF Intermediate criteria)
  • Experience with m anaging the cybersecurity posture of an organization, system, or enclave
  • Experience with planning, implementing, and monitoring information‑system controls
  • Experience with c oordinating with government stakeholders on technical and programmatic issues
  • Ability to d evelop, enforce, and audit security policies and procedures
  • Ability to o versee system administration, configuration management, and change control
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, produce System Security Plans (SSP) and POA&M documentation, and drive continuous‑monitoring activities
  • Ability to c ommunicate technical status, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

Nice To Haves

  • Deep knowledge of DoD cyber‑policy frameworks (RMF, NIST 800‑53, CNSSI 1253)
  • Hands‑on experience with security tools such as SIEM platforms, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection, firewalls, PKI, and DLP solutions
  • Proficiency with network protocols, Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems, and cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)
  • Experience producing RMF artifacts (SSP, POA&M, security‑assessment reports) and managing continuous‑monitoring processes
  • Proven record in incident response, forensic analysis, and remediation of cyber incidents within a DoD environment
  • Strong stakeholder‑management and presentation skills; ability to lead cross‑functional workstreams and provide concise status briefings
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of cyber hygiene
  • Preferred additional certifications: CISA, CCSP, or DoD‑specific 8570.01‑M IA/IA‑C/IA‑E credentials
  • Ability to obtain and maintain higher‑level clearance (Top Secret/SCI) if required for future mission phases
