About The Position

Metabolon is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to be responsible for enterprise infrastructure operations across servers, virtualization, networking, Microsoft 365, and AWS cloud services. This role supports both on-prem and hybrid environments, drives vulnerability remediation and system hardening, improves monitoring and patching processes, and automates routine tasks using scripting and configuration management tools. The position will also provide technical leadership, documentation, and escalation support across the IT team. This role will work a hyrbird schedule (Tues - Thurs in office) from our RTP, NC location

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on systems administration experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience supported by applicable certifications in IT security and/or systems administration
  • Strong expertise in VMware, Windows Server, and Linux in production environments.
  • Experience with installing and maintaining physical servers, storage arrays, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancing, etc.) and storage protocols (iSCSI, FC, FCoE).
  • Proven experience with vulnerability remediation and system hardening.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Experience maintaining Microsoft 365 services.
  • Experience administering AWS, Azure, or GCE cloud infrastructure.
  • Must be able to work onsite at our RTP, NC headquarters

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulated/laboratory or security-sensitive environments if preferred
  • Experience with Merak and Cisco firewalls, Fortinet and Cisco switches and Pure storage arrays is preferred
  • Prior experience in Desktop support is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Windows and Linux servers in on-prem or cloud environments.
  • Install and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, APs, PDUs, UPSs, cameras, etc.
  • Manage virtualization platforms (VMware, Proxmox, etc.) and core infrastructure services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services (Teams, Exchange, OneDrive, Sharepoint, etc.)
  • Maintain backup systems and perform periodic restores.
  • Create and maintain documentation.
  • Perform vulnerability remediation across servers and infrastructure (OS, 3rd party, firmware).
  • Set up and maintain SSO for SaaS-based subscriptions.
  • Partner with ISO on vulnerability scanning results and remediation timelines.
  • Harden systems according to security baselines (CIS, NIST, DISA STIGs, internal standards).
  • Manage privileged access, service accounts, and secrets.
  • Support security incident response processes (log review, containment, and recovery).
  • Ensure systems meet compliance requirements (HIPAA, ISO 27001).
  • Maintain and improve server and network patching, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Automate tasks using scripting and configuration management (PowerShell, Bash, Batch, Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • Administer AWS cloud infrastructure including compute, storage, IAM, and networking.
  • Support hybrid identity and connectivity models.
  • Apply security best practices in cloud environments (least privilege, logging, encryption).
  • Serve as a technical escalation point and mentor for junior staff.
