About The Position

We are seeking a Sr Staff Hardware Integration Engineer to lead the integration and development of complex prototype and production systems. You will work closely with chemists, systems architects, software, electrical, fluidic, optical, and mechanical engineers to ensure that the entire workflow is optimized and error-free. You will stress test and develop critical algorithms, run multi-component DOEs to identify interactions, and lead Tiger Teams to get to the root of difficult multidisciplinary issues. You will get an opportunity to apply your broad background in HW development to new and exciting challenges every day. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment in which they tackle problems that require “climbing the learning curve” quickly. They will use systems-level thinking to make connections between different disciplines and then apply these insights in creative ways.

Requirements

  • MS in Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Physics (or related) and 10-15+ years or PhD and 5-7 years of experience in hardware development, systems integration, and/or testing of analytical instruments for biological systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on algorithm design and development.
  • Experience with systematic approaches to engineering (e.g. Critical Parameter Management, Quality by Design, Six Sigma, etc.) including sesitvity and capability analysis, and Design of Experiements (DOE).
  • Experience with structured problem solving, root cause analysis and troubleshooting and associated tools (e.g. JIRA).
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Python, MATLAB or similar programming experience.
  • Hands-on experience with biological assays in a clinical laboratory.
  • Experience with FMEA and Risk Management.
  • Experience with Engineering Verification Testing and Requirements Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead System-level Critical Parameter Management. Work with the chemistry and engineering leads to identify system-level critical parameters and then run experiments to understand their impact and optimize performance.
  • Lead HW workflow development. The system is composed of many modules with different workflow constraints and characteristics. Developing a robust and optimized workflow will involve a mix of analysis, testing and verification.
  • Lead SW and algorithm integration and debugging. SW and HW algorithms will be developed as the system is integrated that will require careful testing. Ensuring that our SW and HW algorithms are robust against noise and workflow variations will require a willingness to dig deep into the basic theory of operation of the full system.
  • Issue management and Tiger Team leadership. You will work with hardware and chemistry leads to identify issues and track their resolution. When multi-disciplinary problems arise that are beyond the capabilities of a single team, you’ll form “Tiger Teams” with relevant experts to resolve the issues efficiently.
  • Lead configuration and parameter management. With such a complex system, the number of tunable and configurable parameters will be significant. You will work with the SW lead to ensure that we implement a system that is capable yet flexible.

Benefits

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative environment where innovation and scientific rigor are deeply valued.
  • Join a seasoned and multidisciplinary team tackling high-impact problems at the intersction of science and engineering.
  • Competitive compensation and equity package, comprehensive benefits, and flexibility to support work-life integration.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer. We thrive on diversity and collaboration.
