About The Position

The senior accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting controls are functioning as intended.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, Excel (Expert in Microsoft Excel; experience with macros preferred), and Outlook
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting is required.
  • Effective Communication Skills (Written & Verbal).
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
  • Ability to succeed in a team environment.
  • Customer Service Oriented.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of accounting processes, procedure and internal controls.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to generate bold, creative ideas to improve performance and processes
  • Intense drive and passion to learn the business
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and/or dominate language at the school
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
  • Be physically able to lift, reach, bend and stoop frequently lift up to 25 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Prior school foodservice experience desired
  • Merger and acquisition experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing monthly MEALS (accounting software) process.
  • Compile financial statements/invoices for SFE customers.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
  • Meet all financial reporting deadlines
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close processes
  • Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
  • Analyze and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
  • Calculate, prepare and file necessary tax filings for all state & federal jurisdictions.
  • Prepare for financial audit and coordinate the audit process
  • Oversee accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses
  • Perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and integrity of financial data
  • Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
  • Cross train as back-ups for other staff in the case of emergencies.
  • Review and research accounting transactions.
  • Fully understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, county and municipal laws, regulations and rules including those that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements in regards to SFE and district employees and customers and operations.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion with respect to any matter not specifically addressed by the Company’s policies.
  • Other functions, duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or which are necessary or appropriate to the position.
