Sr. Software Engineer II
About The Position
Taco Bell is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II to help design and evolve our menu middleware platform, a mission‑critical system powering digital menus across our ordering channels. Built on AWS serverless and event‑driven microservices, this platform enables scalability, reliability, and rapid innovation as part of the Byte by Yum! initiative. You will lead technical design, mentor engineers, and partner closely with product and platform teams to deliver highly scalable solutions used across Taco Bell and Yum! Brands. The Day-to-Day: Lead the architecture, design, and development of AWS serverless systems (Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, API Gateway). Own technical solutions end‑to-end, from design trade‑offs and API contracts to production readiness. Mentor engineers in serverless architecture, engineering best practices, and modern cloud development. Partner with product managers to scope work, estimate delivery, and align technical solutions to business goals. Drive platform quality through code reviews, testing standards, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure as code. Collaborate across Taco Bell, Yum! Brands, and vendor teams to deliver integrated menu solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building scalable backend services in production environments.
- Strong experience with AWS serverless (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
- Proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript); experience with additional languages such as Python or .NET.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs (OpenAPI); familiarity with GraphQL is a plus.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and infrastructure as code (CDK, SAM, or similar).

- Strong communication skills and experience working with cross‑functional partners.
- AWS certification (Associate or Professional).
- Experience with microservice and event‑driven architectures.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and DevOps tooling.
- Experience using AI‑assisted development tools to improve productivity.
