Sr. Software Engineer - Back End
About The Position
Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Tukwila, Washington, ThriftBooks is the largest online retailer of used books. With more than 800 employees and multiple distribution centers across the United States, we sell tens of thousands of books every day through thriftbooks.com and our marketplace partnerships. Technology is core to our success, enabling both our ecommerce platform and our large-scale logistics operations. ThriftBooks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain our third-party marketplace applications. In this role, you will work closely with a collaborative and highly motivated engineering team to deliver scalable, high-quality software that directly supports business growth. You will contribute to technical decisions, mentor other engineers, and help shape the evolution of our platform.
Requirements
- 5 or more years of professional experience developing back-end applications – with a preference for C# and SQL
- Strong experience with relational databases, including schema design, complex queries, and performance optimization
- Strong foundation in object-oriented programming concepts and design patterns
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Terraform, Bicep, GitHub, Azure Devops, Azure, React, C#, SQL, Redis.
- Experience scaling large internal applications.
- Demonstrated curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and improving software craftsmanship
- Experience with industry standard cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), CI/CD tools, and software infrastructure fundamentals
Responsibilities
- Build features for ThriftBooks back-end systems. These are usually a mix of C# and SQL Server.
- Maintain performance, scalability, and reliability across back-end system features and infrastructure
- Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical standards and best practices
- Review code, provide constructive feedback, mentor other engineers
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues as needed
