DESCRIPTION: Join our collaborative team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Sr Scientific Support Specialist within Unity Lab Services. In this role, you'll contribute by providing essential laboratory support services that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You'll manage inventory systems, coordinate laboratory operations, and ensure exceptional service delivery at customer sites. Working directly with researchers and scientists, you'll maintain crucial lab support functions including materials management, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably Bachelors Of Science
  • Proven excellence in customer service skills and a thorough problem-solving approach.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong desire to serve the customer with excellent interpersonal skills to work well with personnel at various levels.
  • Must uphold Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Four-I Values.
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in laboratory setting and/or customer service environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact professionally at all levels
  • Experience with inventory management systems and handheld scanners
  • Capability to stand/walk for extended periods and work in varied temperature environments
  • Willingness to wear required PPE including lab coats, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Valid driver's license may be required for some positions
  • Experience with laboratory documentation and compliance procedures
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional demeanor

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Fields of Study: Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP environments and laboratory safety protocols preferred
  • Experience with chemical handling and waste management protocols preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance activities in supervised laboratories, such as cleaning and defrosting refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges, as well as handling equipment calibrations.
  • Maintain lab signage and labeling
  • Daily communication via group MS teams channel to inform lab members of issues/updates in the labs.
  • Maintain contact with lab members regarding on going work orders.
  • Maintain and track instrument calibration, maintenance, and repair schedules.
  • Assist with instrument installations.
  • Perform upkeep on open-access instruments.
  • Handle and order supplies for analytical labs, engineering, and processes as needed.
  • Keep track of non-regulated instrument preventive maintenance schedules and act as a point of contact for maintenance and repair issues.
  • Support lab cleanliness using 5S and safety principles.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sanitize equipment and hood surfaces contaminated with hazardous materials.
  • Act as an intermediary and collaborate with QA and EHSS to address compliance and safety concerns.
  • Perform additional administrative activities as requested, such as addressing safety findings.
  • Stock and maintain inventory for consumables (excluding Point of Use) and equipment components.
  • Maintain metric data for work performed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
