About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. We are looking for a Senior Satellite Test Engineer who thrives on solving hard problems at the intersection of test engineering and production optimization. In this role, you won't just test satellites — you'll fundamentally reshape how we test them. You'll find creative ways to expand test coverage, compress test timelines, and unlock production throughput as we scale from development builds to launching thousands of satellites. This is a high-impact opportunity to directly influence the pace and reliability of Amazon Leo's constellation deployment. You will partner with engineering and manufacturing teams across ground and space systems to define test requirements, architect test strategies, develop complex automation, and execute campaigns that span from initial build through spacecraft validation and launch readiness. Your focus will be on bridging development testing into production — building the test infrastructure and processes that scale. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. A day in the life As an Amazon Leo Senior Satellite Test Engineer, you will develop and refine test strategies that take satellites from subsystem validation through full spacecraft qualification and launch readiness. You will build complex test automation, design innovative test hardware, and drive improvements that reduce test cycle times and increase production throughput. You will collaborate daily with avionics, payload, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure every spacecraft meets the rigorous standards required for orbit. About the team The Integrated Vehicle Test team is responsible for development and execution of test plans to ensure reliable operation of satellite vehicles in space. The team’s responsibilities include process development, test hardware and software development and test execution for qualification vehicles and improving and scaling processes for production cadence. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on exciting new responsibilities to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to address complex problems by identifying the scope of the issue and quickly establishing innovative and functional solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience developing test strategies and plans for complex hardware/software systems or systems of systems
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing test plans for complex aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics systems
  • 3+ years of experience in a development-to-production transition environment
  • 2+ years of scripting or programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or C)
  • Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of hands-on RF testing experience, including design and/or validation of RF hardware systems
  • 5+ years of scripting or programming experience with a focus on test automation
  • Experience with satellite hardware integration and testing, including familiarity with GEVS, SMC-S-016, or similar space hardware test standards
  • Track record of measurably improving test efficiency, reducing cycle times, or increasing throughput in a production or high-volume test environment
  • Experience as a technical lead, guiding engineers through product development or test campaigns
  • Strong root cause analysis skills with demonstrated ability to drive corrective actions across cross-functional teams
  • Experience with test infrastructure scaling — transitioning test processes from development/prototype to production volumes
  • Experience with continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Develop and continuously refine test approaches for components, subsystems, and fully integrated spacecraft to establish flight readiness
  • Architect and implement vehicle-level test strategies that balance thoroughness with efficiency, identifying opportunities to parallelize, automate, or eliminate redundant test steps
  • Develop complex test automation sequences using Python and scripting tools to replace manual processes and enable repeatable, high-confidence test execution at scale
  • Own end-to-end test campaigns from requirements gathering through execution and post-test analysis, collaborating with avionics, payload, software, manufacturing, and ground support teams
  • Design, execute, and analyze RF/payload testing for vehicle-level campaigns, including link budget validation and RF performance characterization
  • Lead the definition of organization-wide test strategies that mitigate product risks and communicate test readiness to stakeholders with clarity and confidence
  • Develop innovative test hardware, fixtures, and processes that push beyond current capabilities to meet evolving spacecraft requirements
  • Identify and drive root cause analysis on test anomalies, translating findings into actionable process and design improvements

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
