About The Position

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) inspires learning to transform lives and strengthen communities. The Sr. Project Manager supports this mission by planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to deadlines and within budget. This role involves assigning resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party partners to deliver IT projects according to plan. While maintaining traditional oversight, the Senior Project Manager will facilitate the team’s gradual adoption of iterative workflows. The incumbent will maintain structural oversight and quality control while fostering a collaborative, flexible environment that empowers teams to deliver high-value results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • PMP Certification
  • 4+ years of relevant project management experience

Nice To Haves

  • Agile Proficiency: Demonstrated training or certification in Agile methodologies, such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP, or Kanban foundations.
  • Hybrid Experience: Experience leading teams in "Hybrid" environments that combine Waterfall planning with Agile execution.
  • Digital Fluency: Ability to work and manage teams with effective use of Digital workplace tools and methods such as: Collaboration Tools: Examples include Zoom Workplace, MS Teams, Slack Documentation Systems: Examples include Zoom Docs, Confluence, SharePoint, GetHub, Wiki-based systems and Markdown. Project Planning Tools: Examples include TeamDynamix, MS Project, MS Planner, Monday.com, Smartsheets, Jira, Trello, or Azure DevOps

Responsibilities

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools with consideration of iterative cycles for task execution.
  • Liaise with stakeholders on an ongoing basis and effectively communicate project expectations to team members.
  • Conduct project postmortems and create recommendations reports to identify successful and unsuccessful elements.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and negotiate for personnel when required.
  • Draft budget proposals and recommend changes where necessary.
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end, utilizing both full-scale project plans and visual management tools like Card walls or Kanban.
  • Identify and manage project risks and dependencies and the critical path while removing daily impediments for the team.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate project team members and contractors, influencing them to take accountability for their work.
  • Facilitate regular team "sync" meetings (such as daily stand-ups) to identify and resolve issues and conflicts.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope and devise contingency plans to handle potential crises.
  • Other duties as assigned.
