Sr. Principal Linux System Administrators, internally known as Sr. Principal Analyst, infrastructure Workplace Services, collaborate with many teams to support exciting, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you can develop, implement and maintain secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex IT infrastructure problems.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or a master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant.
  • Must be able to obtain and transferable and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Start date will not be set until a DoD interim clearance is issued.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Windows OSs including system installation, administration, patching, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments plus Data Center management and support.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, ESXi, or similar platforms and knowledge of core network engineering principles and experience supporting enterprise networking.
  • Experience secure system configurations, system hardening, application settings, and custom tailoring environments to meet compliance and mission requirements.

  • Deep experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its ecosystem, including authentication and identity services (SSSD, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS) and file sharing/integration services (Samba, NFS).
  • Expertise with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Red Hat Satellite, along with strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Perl, or C to support provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization and containerization technologies, including VMware vCenter, vSphere, Horizon, ESXi, KVM, Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage systems (e.g., NetApp) and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technologies such as Horizon, Profile Unity, and NVIDIA GPU virtualization (NLS, DLS).
  • Proficiency with monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and compliance assessment tools (ACAS, Splunk, Nessus, SCAP, STIG, Nagios, SolarWinds) and working knowledge of security frameworks (CMMC, NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS, DoD RMF).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Linux / Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Subject Matter Expert (SME), designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining physical and virtual Linux servers across a large-scale enterprise network. This includes system hardening, patching, automation with Ansible, provisioning with Kickstart, access control management, lifecycle management with Red Hat Satellite, virtualization with KVM, containerization with Podman or Docker, and hybrid cloud integrations with OpenShift and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, software developers, systems administrators, storage, networking, and high-performance computing teams to resolve complex infrastructure and integration challenges.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous compliance with regulatory and security frameworks such as DFARS, RMF, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Provide critical, on-site support for mission systems in a closed DoD area, responding to both planned and emergent tasks, with occasional work outside standard hours and up to 10% travel as required.
  • Obtain and maintain DoD 8140 / 8570 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) within six months of hire.
