Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking to add a Sr. Principal Hardware Engineer to our team in San Diego Rancho Carmel, CA. This position will support the F35 Sustainment program. This candidate will be responsible for the processing of hardware through the sustainment workflow and will also support potential process improvement efforts. Scheduled telework days can be approved at manager's discretion. This position requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience in working in classified and unclassified networks, network storage devices, security appliances, and government external interfaces.
  • Experience with engineering principles, processes, and software/hardware integration.
  • Experience with electrical and RF troubleshooting using equipment such as but not limited to: Multimeter, Network/Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, etc.
  • Experience reading and interpret specifications, schematics and block diagrams
  • Experience with measuring test equipment effectiveness including availability, performance, and quality.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with electrical/electro-mechanical hardware
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain DOD Secret Clearance upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Experience writing and presenting technical information to customer and internal management audience.
  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering, or related fields, with specialization in RF.
  • Experience with C, C++, LabVIEW or other scripting languages
  • Experience with VHDL Concepts & Programming
  • Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement testing methods and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and support RF/digital hardware and test yields (FPY), including hardware deliveries
  • Analyze test data, identify trends, and recommend changes to equipment, procedures, or processes
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement hardware improvements and solutions
  • Support and train technicians in troubleshooting
  • Monitor and maintain product yield targets; report and address yield issues in program meetings
  • Lead and participate in hardware investigations (RCCAs), module cell meetings, and technical discussions
  • Provide leadership to software support, test leads, and engineering teams
  • Perform organizational and depot-level maintenance and technical support at customer and field locations
  • Interface with cross-functional teams and program management to address program needs and shifting priorities
  • Candidate will have strong interpersonal and communications skills, with experience briefing senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of an integrated product team.
