About The Position

The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator supports accurate, compliant payroll processing and benefits administration for a high-tempo aerospace machining environment. This role also partners with HR and Finance to support manufacturing compensation analysis—including hourly wage benchmarking, shift differentials, skill-based pay, job leveling, and internal equity reviews—helping ensure the facility stays competitive in the Wichita market while maintaining strong cost discipline and compliance.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with timekeeping and payroll systems (ADP, Paycom, UKG/Kronos, Workday, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of payroll compliance (FLSA, overtime rules, garnishments, benefits eligibility).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or performing compensation analysis in manufacturing (hourly wage structures, differentials, progression steps).
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas; comfort with datasets).
  • Detail-obsessed accuracy, high discretion, and deadline reliability
  • Calm under pressure (production payroll cycles + employee issue resolution)
  • Analytical mindset: explains “why” behind pay decisions, not just the numbers
  • Strong communication with hourly workforce and shop leadership
  • Continuous improvement orientation (process cleanup, automation, error reduction)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an aerospace machining environment.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) and/or compensation-related coursework/certification (a plus).
  • Experience with job evaluation, job descriptions, and wage survey participation.
  • Familiarity with Kansas/Wichita, Pennsylvania, and Arizona labor market dynamics and local wage benchmarking.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly/biweekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy for shift premiums, overtime, differentials, attendance incentives, per diem (if applicable), and retro pay.
  • Audit timekeeping inputs (e.g., Kronos/UKG/ADP time clocks), resolve punches/timecard exceptions, and coordinate approvals with supervisors.
  • Maintain payroll records, garnishments, tax withholdings, W-4 updates, and year-end processing support (W-2, audits).
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA, state wage requirements, and company policies.
  • Administer health, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA/FSA, and 401(k) processes, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and vendor coordination.
  • Support annual open enrollment, benefits communications, and employee education.
  • Track eligibility, leaves, and status changes (new hires, LOA, return-to-work, separations).
  • Coordinate with carriers/brokers on billing, reconciliations, and claims/escalations.
  • Support hourly compensation structure in a manufacturing setting (machinists, CNC operators, inspectors, programmers, maintenance, shipping/receiving, production support).
  • Assist with wage benchmarking using local data, surveys, and internal trends; summarize findings and recommend ranges.
  • Maintain job codes, pay grades, shift differential rules, and skill/level progression frameworks.
  • Conduct internal equity checks and compression analyses during hiring waves, merit cycles, and retention reviews.
  • Support offers by preparing comp recommendations aligned to experience, skill, certifications, and market conditions.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Operations to ensure payroll rules and comp programs match production realities.
  • Support HRIS data integrity (employee changes, cost centers, reporting relationships).
  • Generate routine and ad-hoc reports: overtime trends, headcount, labor distribution, benefit reconciliations, turnover indicators.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
