About The Position

Serta Simmons Bedding (SSB) is seeking a seasoned Senior Engineer, Manufacturing Design to drive innovation and process excellence across our manufacturing operations. In this role, you'll apply your technical expertise and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) experience to optimize production processes, improve efficiencies, and support new product launches. You'll partner with cross-functional teams - from product development to operations - to ensure that our iconic brands (Serta, Beautyrest, Simmons, and Tuft & Needle) continue to meet the highest standards of quality and cost-effectiveness. This role will be based in the Doraville Office on a hybrid scheduled. The ideal candidate will be in office 2-3 days a week on Tuesday- Thursday.

Requirements

  • Industrial or Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Min 5-year work experience in an Engineering role
  • No product drafting or modeling work required for role (i.e. AutoCAD, Solidworks, Revit, etc.)
  • Manufacturing experience and experience launching new products desired
  • Enjoy working with large teams and leading groups to learn and find new solutions together
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team environment and perform short notice assignments with flexibility
  • Knowledgeable in use of MS Office suite
  • Able to communicate at all levels and cross functionally and maintain cooperative relationships
  • Exemplify a high level of personal conviction and spirit; able to work with little supervision and prioritize work assignments so they are completed on time
  • Team-oriented work approach; initiative, flexibility, and able to work in a team setting
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Travel to manufacturing locations up to 50%
  • Work is primarily sedentary in nature

Responsibilities

  • Lead the DFM activities and deliverables for assigned projects
  • Communicate requirements and risks associated with launching new products to the project team and large cross-functional audiences. Drive decisions on the readiness to launch new products.
  • Manage the early product and/or technology pilots by identifying material needs, scheduling time in manufacturing, establishing success criteria, and managing issue resolution
  • Create the required documentation to support each pilot including: Material Checklists, Pilot Data Collection Forms, Pilot Results Summary, and Issue Tracker
  • Be a voice for manufacturing and a leader of change to continuously look for improvement opportunities to make future products and launches better than the last
  • Serve as an SME of the piloting process, to ensure pilots are right sized for the complexity of the new program
  • Create and apply DFM tools that identify design risks early, to support a faster and more successful product launch
  • Lead the FMEA discussions with the cross-functional team to identify design risks and the applicable actions to reduce or minimize the risk
  • Collaborate with manufacturing leaders and other tenured staff on new designs to get early feedback on potential risks or concerns
  • Participate on regularly schedule project calls and provide feedback on deliverable status and project risks
