About The Position

The Leidos Technology and Digital Transformation Solutions Division is seeking to add a versatile Sr Network Engineering resource Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Vancouver Control Center (VCC) project team who can support the completion of the design phase and support a multi-year construction phase. Location: This position supports teleworking for design efforts, but construction efforts will be primarily on site at our Factory Test facility in Vista, CA with some travel and hybrid work. The Challenge: Transport and Network design completion Complete documentation of equipment placement and interconnectivity. Verify bill of materials entries are complete and accurate for all operational equipment and spares. Review construction planning including Factory Test integration approach and provide feedback. Construction – Equipment Procurement Support network and transport equipment procurement efforts led by procurement specialist by verifying ordering details and helping to adjust scheduling of buys to match schedule needs. Construction – Factory Test Equipment Installation Support receipt, inspection, chain-of-custody documentation and temporary storage of incoming equipment. Support the installation of telecom racks and the equipment that is required by the design to support the Nokia transport and Cisco network systems. Support connection to DC fuse panel and breaker panel for DC powering of equipment. Support connection to AC PDUs for AC powered equipment connections. Support fiber and copper cabling between patch panels and end devices. Support installation of test equipment and test software used to provide test traffic loading. Construction – Factory Test Equipment – Configuration & Integration Lead the Factory Test configuration and integration of Nokia 7250 and 7705 transport equipment with support from a subcontractor trained in the utility configurations required for operations. Lead the configuration and integration of multiple networks that utilize Cisco 8300 routers and a variety of conventional POE Cisco switches including copper and fiber leaf switches. Lead the configuration and checkout of test equipment and software to be used to apply test traffic loads to the network and transport systems. Construction – Factory Test Equipment – Factory Test Support Support factory test dry run and test procedure development related to network and transport components of the Factory test architecture. Support factory test conduct including execution of test procedures related to transport and network systems. Support troubleshooting and remediation of problems found during test. Construction – Factory Test Equipment - Demobilization Support removal of cable and equipment from factory test rack systems and packing for shipment in original or new packing material. Support the update of chain of custody documentation as required for transition from Leidos to the customer control. Construction – On-site Equipment Installation Support and Oversight Support installation of network and transport equipment at the new utility control center site in Vancouver, WA. While the bulk of installation will be performed by electrical contractor’s personnel, Leidos will assist and ensure that the correct equipment is installed in each rack and at the correct position. Construction – On-site Equipment Cabling Support and Oversight After equipment is installed, cabling to power will be performed followed by data cabling per the design package drawings. While the bulk of cabling will be performed by electrical contractor’s personnel, Leidos will assist in some basic patching and will provide oversight to ensure all connections are made properly. Construction – On-Site Configuration and Integration Lead the On-Site configuration and integration of telecom transport and network equipment supporting the full control center configuration. Lead the configuration and checkout of test equipment and software to be used to apply test traffic loads to the network and transport systems. Construction – On-Site Site Acceptance Test (SAT) Support Support the test lead in finalizing network and transport system related test procedures. Support dry runs of the SAT test procedures. Support test conduct of the SAT testing. Support troubleshooting and remediation of problems found during testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 years’ experience or additional 5 years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
  • Experience with configuration and procurement of network and transport equipment including routers, and switches.
  • Experienced in the installation and configuration of telecom and network equipment.
  • Must have experience with MS Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with network and/or telecom test equipment such as line testers, BER test sets, OTDRs, protocol analyzers, Wireshark network monitor tool and power level meters.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with MPLS packet transport systems including one of the following platforms –Nokia or Cisco.
  • Experience with Nokia 7705 SAR for use as channel bank platform.
  • Experience in use of DS1 Jackfields and standard fiber and copper patch panels.
  • Certification in IP routing and switching.
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise.
  • Knowledge of design drawings in Visio, BlueBeam, MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Request and record vendor price quotes and assist in buildup of full BOM costs.
  • Support the procurement, integration and staging of all Telecom equipment.
