CMU’s Computing Services department is searching for a Sr. Media Services Equipment Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This position is responsible for set up, managing, and maintaining the audio-visual (AV) equipment that support evening online hybrid recording sessions, University events on and off campus, and resident equipment associated with technology enhanced facilities during Monday-Thursday evening hours (2:00pm-10:00pm), Friday (10:00am-6pm), as well as part of a scheduled rotation to support periodic weekend events. Ensure all the audio-visual presentations and equipment is configured, setup correctly, operates smoothly, and is taken down and stored properly. This position may be responsible for the temporary installation, maintenance, and repair of AV equipment. May be required to repair equipment, maintain a catalog of equipment the organization owns, set up and operate equipment during events and demonstrations, etc. Provide support for live presentations, distance learning and audio/video conferencing. This role will work University faculty, staff, and students, and may work with outside vendors and non-university contractors for the implementation and support of AV equipment.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree Required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory of equipment the organization owns. Locates and retrieves missing equipment and/or notified manager of missing equipment.
  • Research new technology and audio-visual equipment to improve Event support services, and make equipment purchase recommendations. Arrange equipment demos with manufacturers.
  • May train or instruct students, staff, or faculty on operation of A/V equipment. Troubleshoots user issues.
  • Configure and operate Zoom Meetings and Webinars for hybrid classes and/or virtual events. Plan, setup, and operate AV equipment for events utilizing complex audio configurations with various types of microphones and audio mixers, DMX lighting board, and sound equalization for optimized performance. Assist with management of Cohen Lending Center, including mentoring Media Services student workers. Configure and operate installed room AV equipment associated with the department's resident system for events. Configure and operate Zoom Meetings and Webinars sessions for hybrid classes and/or virtual events. Configure and setup Shure wireless microphones, gooseneck microphones, Soundcraft and Presonus mixers, Epson portable projectors, large portable displays, and QSC sound projection speakers for events. Responsible for maintenance and inventory of that equipment. May film classroom lectures for the Heinz and Tepper schools. Plan, setup, and operate AV equipment for events utilizing complex audio configurations with various types of microphones and audio mixers, DMX lighting board, and sound equalization for optimized performance. Provide support for live presentations, distance learning and webinar programs as requested. Research new technology and audio-visual equipment to improve Event support services, and make equipment purchase recommendations. Arrange equipment demos with manufacturers. Support of video conferencing technology, including Zoom, WebEx, and Skype. Understanding of Mac and PC platforms for AV support and administrative tasks. Knowledge of PowerPoint and Keynotes applications for projection. Work with outside vendors and non-university contractors for supplemental support for campus events.
